Just Peace:
A Prescription for Holistic Peace Based on
Ancient Practices
Every time I revisit this manuscript in its preparation, I chuckle to myself about the
grossly in-depth and tangled treatise I present to the reader with the aim of
‘simplifying’ the Peace process. It seems I use an awful lot of words to achieve a
paradigm of simplicity.
And, to answer your question (yes, you asked a question by
picking up this book), peace itself is easy—once you deconstruct your inherited and
overly complicated perspective. It’s getting through that process which takes some doing. You’ve spent a lifetime learning how not to do it (peace). It’s gonna take a ‘minute’ to undo all of that (‘unpeace’). It did for me (30 years once I started actively asking questions; let’s hope you’re a quicker study). So, in advance, thank you for your patience with the presentation of concepts, historical insights, scientific corollaries, and pontificating on my part.
The assertions made in this book are based as much on intuition, deduction, and reason as they are in historical documentation and scientific discovery. Facts are dead, intuition is alive. Without the ability to synthesize and deduce, information on its own is of little consequence. Two people can look at the same painting and see different things. One, less experienced, sees a park with some people in it. While another, more experienced, sees a burdened mother with her two children; a deep, ongoing conversation of some weight between gentlemen; the joy of children playing; the fecund clouds on the horizon. Learned perspective can inform the lens through which we see.
Most of the historical and scientific supporting facts presented herein have been known for hundreds if not thousands of years. But the wrong lens has been applied to them. In this text, I present these facts from an unconventional angle, along with the logic followed, for your consideration. This is a philosophical perspective piece based on historical research and scientific query and founded upon deduction and intuition, in the light of the teachings of the ancient peace traditions. The pieces of this puzzle have been within our 9 means for some time. Our lack of perspective has obscured the image. Until now that image has been blurred. In this manuscript, it comes into focus. An image that illuminates and informs the observer of the bigger picture, the obscured connections between the pieces, and what they mean.
I wrote this book as the culmination of my deep desire for answers to existential truth. Having had a near-death, out-of-body experience in my youth after a grueling car accident of which I was the only survivor, I wanted an explanation for the state of ultimate Peace and the lack of mental and emotional processes that I experienced during the several minutes I was ‘unshackled from the physical realm.’ For the absence of local identity and opinion, judgment, and valuation as I had known them in the body. This book presents the ‘knowing’ I acquired after thirty years of seeking, of putting together the ‘puzzle pieces’ that had been lying around on the proverbial ‘floor’ for millennia. The truth I found was simultaneously simple, beautiful, and more empowering than I could have imagined. This process of discovery pointed me toward the Path of Peace, for which I am forever grateful.
With this said, I would like to bid you well on your path. I hope this practice serves you as it serves me. My benediction for you is, in the words of the Essenes, ‘Peace be with you.’ And as Jesus added, ‘…my peace I give to you.’
